The Stash

I just love housewares. Sometimes when I’m running errands, I’ll pop into Pier 1 or Williams-Sonoma or Bed Bath and Beyond just to poke around. I love scrolling through couples’ bridal registries. When I was in high school, I even created a fictitious registry online at Macy’s. It was a labor of love developed slowly and steadily over a few weeks, and the process was so satisfying.

I think it’s nice to develop your personal taste in housewares over time. One benefit is that you can keep tabs on the items you like and purchase them when they go on sale. That’s how I acquired the big(ger) ticket items in my Stash (our name for my housewares stockpile). So far I have china (this and this), glasses and stemware, in addition to Pyrex measuring cups and bakeware. My mother and I are waiting for a sale on these pots. When I go on vacation, I also like to choose souvenirs to add to The Stash (like this quirky kitchen towel from Newport, RI). It’s so much fun to build a collection slowly and deliberately. Spreading out the purchases allows me to spread the pleasure that comes from choosing what I really like.
