Nisan is the first in the count of the Jewish months. So we are at a beginning. I just did a Cluster in my journal and wrote down the associations I have with the word “Nisan.” There was nostalgia – memories – grandparents – cousins – traditions. And longing – it goes so quickly, this spring and this holiday season and this year (some anticipatory nostalgia). There was change – that infamous wardrobe changeover – reworking routines for the longer and lighter days. Possibility – a sense of time opening up – summer’s not so far off. And of course, beginning – renewal – refresh – unburdening.
I often find it challenging to write Jewish year-themed posts. The themes that come up for me each year around the different Yomim Tovim are really the same year on year, and it is hard to come up with a unique spin! So I will not do that. Instead I will refer you to do this exercise as well. What are your associations with Nisan and Pesach? What invitations do they offer to you?
Wishing you a chodesh tov – a happy and beautiful month of geulah and yeshuah!
