Summer Newsletter 11/13

I’m on my third of five “summer Fridays” and today I’m going to the beach. That should be nice.

This week I fell behind in The Artist’s Way so I will do chapter 11 next week. No Artist Date either, but I did go to a Yankees game with my cousins (my first baseball game) and loved it (even though the Yankees lost quite badly). I will count this as “play” for the week. I would love to go to another game! I found the whole experience to be surprisingly wholesome – the whole stadium sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” at I think the seventh inning? I got a hot dog, of course, and next time I’ll need to have a hot pretzel with mustard. Could I become a baseball person?

Last Friday, I went to the Morgan Library & Museum for the Jane Austen exhibit – which was lovely – but what turned out to be the main event for me was the Julia Margaret Cameron exhibit across the hall. I was totally mesmerized. What a brilliant artist.

Gretchen Rubin described a feeling I often have, which her sister labeled “the joy of to-ing and fro-ing.” It is the joy of feeling capable and competent and grown-up and getting to where you need to go — I feel this often on my commute to work and when I go to lunch in the city. I love that name!

This week, a client in my journal writing group referenced the William Wordsworth poem, “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud.” Always love this poem.

Speaking of journaling groups, I have started the Journal to the Self instructor certification training at last, a goal for me for the longest time.

Have a good Shabbos!
