Happy Chanukah #5!
This has been such a nice week b”H. Although it was quite bitterly cold out for a few days, I accomplished a few items on my winter fun list and am having a nice Chanukah so far. Also, almost all my grading is done, which feels like a big accomplishment.
On Sunday, I took a holiday nostalgia ride, which was just so cute. It was funny to me how “over it” New Yorkers seemed – not looking up when a subway train from the 1930’s pulled up to the platform. Afterwards, I walked to Bryant Park and bought mini cupcakes at the Winter Village. In the evening, I gave my third JTTS pilot class.
After work on Monday, my sister met up with me, and we looked at store windows at Bloomingdale’s, Dior, Tiffany, and Bergdorf’s. Then we took the subway uptown to Noi Due. We got home pretty late, but I was back out bright the next morning to go to…
My passport appointment at the Austrian Consulate! I decided to walk from the train (about an hour’s walk!) and stop at the library and make a store return, so I got in a LOT of city walking between the previous evening and that morning. After the appointment I went home and I was so tired that afternoon, woah.
On Wednesday, I made Belgian waffles (well, I started the process, my sister took over which was a huge help) for our Motzoei Shabbos Chanukah party. These came out good! At night, I watched the movie Groundhog Day, which I found really thought-provoking (post on this to follow next week).
My sister came with her boys (including my newest tiny nephew) for Chanukah break and I love it when they’re here!
And so far, I have eaten several frosted doughnuts with sprinkles (no filling), which is all I want in a doughnut.
Presents: At a work party last week, I got the Rick Steves guide to the south of France from my “secret snowflake” (we made wish lists on Elfster) and hopefully it will bring me one step closer to my dream trip this summer! And, I got this Lego set along with a Target gift card from my supervisor. This was also on my wish list because I have never been into Lego but I do want to give it a try. From my family gift exchange, I got a portable phone charger from my sister (which I sorely needed). The Elfster gift exchange that I coordinated for my family has been checked off! I got a $100 Gift-o-gram from the CEO (we all did) which I will probably redeem for…an Amazon gift card. Finally, at a work party this week, I won $25 to Stew Leonard’s, of all places.
Also, I bought a car vacuum for my sister per her wish list. After I wrapped it, I had some leftover wrapping paper that was too cute to throw out so I cut it into strips and made a little paper chain that I draped over a framed picture in the hallway and waited for someone to notice. Lol. I decided that when I have kids and they are getting lots of presents (I should add that my family was never much into presents, but I totally will be), we will make it a tradition to make wrapping paper chains. Ok? Glad we settled that.
Reading: This week I took notes on Art Hiding in New York, by Lori Zimmer, and created a walking tour for myself using ChatGPT/Google Maps. To do when the weather gets nicer!
Have a warm and cozy Shabbos Chanukah!
