Things Start to Happen When You Leave the House

I cannot find the source for this sentiment, so stated (maybe I dreamt it), but I have found it to be true. Somehow, leaving the house — literally opening the door and going somewhere — seems to set movement into motion.

About a year ago, I went to see Riverdance, an Irish dancing group. I planned on going to the show alone, but as it turned out, a friend had bought tickets with her friends, which we discovered by coincidence, so we met up for dinner before the show. One of her friends, who I had never met before (and only met for 20 minutes or so then), set me up a few weeks later with a great guy — one of my best dating experiences!

When I reflect on my trip to Yorkshire, I still can’t believe I actually met Nicholas Ralph/James Herriot, out there on the Dales. But for that unpredictable wonderful thing to happen, I had to first plan a trip and go to Yorkshire.

Of course, I cannot take credit for these serendipities — this is hashgocha pratis! The part where I got to intervene a little was in deciding to say yes to doing interesting things, engaging with the world and other people — and then to leave the house!
