Winter Newsletter 4/13

This was a quiet week after the busyness of last week!

On Sunday night, I left a letter under the menorah as I’ve done for the past few years. My minhag is to read the previous year’s letter before I write the new one and I find this very meaningful. As much as I like to write in my journal and this blog, these Chanukah letters feel deeper and more special than other writing I do.

My sister and BIL and their family left Monday morning. Their visit (five nights!) was just the best. I’m always so happy when my (nieces and) nephews are around, and love spending time with my sister. I had purchased the Manischewitz cookie house but we didn’t have time to make it so I sent it home with my sister and she sent me pictures and videos of her kids decorating it. They seemed to be enjoying! Maybe I’ll try again next year.

I ended up calling out sick on Monday because I came down with something over the weekend (mostly better now). So my only real day of work was Tuesday. I had a virtually silent work day on Wednesday so I eked out the rest of my lit review and sent it to my professor. 28 1/2 pages and it will definitely need work but mischief managed for now!

I did not feel up to getting Chinese on December 24th but I did get the following day so we’ll say that’s done.

This week I watched Miracle on 34th Street and It’s a Wonderful Life (don’t look at me like that). For all the none of you who are keeping track, this means I need one more classic movie to get to five for the year (having already consumed Home Alone and Groundhog Day). So what shall it be?

Currently reading: The Land of Sweet Forever by Harper Lee. This is a collection of short stories and essays from her published and unpublished works. I am not sure how I feel about the short stories but am looking forward to the essays. Fun fact: Harper Lee lived most of her life in New York City, the lucky duck (and not Alabama).

And we’re expecting snow in the area all Shabbos, so I’m looking forward to curling up on my corner of the couch as usual, with a book or three.

Wishing you a cozy Shabbos!
