NYC, What Is It About You?

I’m back at work in person one day a week, and I’m fortunate enough to have an office on a really high floor in a building in Chelsea. I face my office window most of the day and watch helicopters circle above the Hudson River. I watch seagulls sail by and imagine what it would be like to fly over the rooftops of the city. I watch yellow cabs down below and construction workers on the roof next door. At the end of the day, I walk to the train smiling. NYC, what is it about you?

I know what it is, though. It’s the endlessness. It’s the feeling that the city will never be used up. It’s the feeling that no matter the day, the weather, your mood, your interests, the city has something to offer, and something new to you. Even the Met has over two million items in its collection. NYC is the field trip that never ends, and for those of us who loved field trips, that’s a thrill.

Whether you live near or far from (or in!) NYC, I hope you find a source of endless wonder in your surroundings.

Have a great Shabbos!
