Mincha

I just learned that not all animals are either diurnal (active by day) or nocturnal — some animals are crepuscular (active by twilight – dawn and dusk). I thought this was interesting because I never really thought about those times as distinct from day and night. But of course they are.

Thinking about erev/dusk…It’s shadowy and can feel heavy and uneasy, and that’s when we have a designated time to daven. It’s neither here nor there — we often have to stop what we were doing to daven mincha. This pause can help us remember that we are not traveling in the twilight alone. Sometimes life feels like twilight and that we are stuck in an in-between place. But there is life and movement in the in-between, too, and then, again, no time lasts forever.
