Winter Newsletter 12/13

Wow, we are just about rounding the corner to the spring quarter. The weather may still be wintery, but warmer days are surely not too far off. It has been a pleasure to walk to the train in the morning without tiptoeing between patches of ice. I had taken a stress-free walk for granted!

This week I read an excellent book called The Other Side of Change: Who We Become When Life Makes Other Plans, by Maya Shankar, a cognitive scientist. I will be sharing some of my notes and takeaways in future posts be”H.

One evening this week, I went out to eat with friends. Two of them were making a siyum and invited the rest of us. This was nice!

Another night, my mother and I went to see Come From Away, a musical about the Canadian town of Gander, Newfoundland, which hosted 7,000 stranded passengers who were grounded there after American airspace closed on 9/11. This show (fyi not family-friendly) is definitely one of my favorites that I have seen so far. We laughed and cried, it felt incredibly life-affirming and inspiring. And it was very Canadian, which my mother especially enjoyed. I will be thinking about it for awhile!

Wishing you a warm and restful Shabbos!
