It kind of blows my mind that we are in June already. My planned summer fun is frontloaded into this month (the Friday of summer), but I wanted to think through the season as a whole. I haven’t completely finished thinking it through, to be honest, but here are some preliminary thoughts that may inspire some of your own summer planning, as well.
Laura Vanderkam makes a summer spreadsheet with each week of summer listed down the y-axis and her children’s names across the x-axis, in which she plots camp and other plans. Though I’m only planning for myself, I was inspired to create a spreadsheet with each of the 13 weeks, and set some intentions or aims for (most of) them.
As far as the landscape of the summer, in June, I have a short trip for work, and my longer trip at the end of the month. In August, I have all Fridays off, which I’d like to plan to enjoy. And I’d love to get to some fun items on my yearly list, and think about ways to make summer itself feel more like summer.
One thing I’m pleased about is my new long denim skirt, which makes me feel like I am headed to camp. I haven’t had one of those in a while!
This summer I hope to be”H:
visit the Bronx Zoo
attend a Yankees game
walk up Broadway
I also want to watch the following three classic movies:
1776, as we are headed into the Semiquincentennial of the country. Since this is a musical, I can’t watch it on July 4th (which falls during the Three Weeks), so I will aim to watch it this month.
Lawrence of Arabia
Field of Dreams
Continuing my flower chase, I hope to see roses. And for a small NYC adventure, I’d like to go stargazing on the High Line.
Finally, a summer reread sounds like such a good idea, as my spring reread was such a delight. Any suggestions? I could continue with the series, but the high school books have a fall flavor, so maybe best to start in August and run into September.
What are you thinking about doing this summer – large and small?
