Summer Update Week 3/13

Self-indulgent though it may be, I have declared June a month-long birthday celebration. This week was birthday dinner at The Diner, with my sister and two friends. This restaurant is a true retro diner — untouched — which delighted me to no end. My friend said it made her feel like she was in a movie, and the town sheriff was going to stop by our table to chat. My sister thought we ought to leave our tip as a pile of change in the middle of the table, haha (we didn’t). I had tomato soup and chicken and waffles, and we shared a (pareve) milkshake and pancakes for dessert. Definitely hoping to go back!!

Also this week, I saw the play Giant on Broadway. I hadn’t done much reading beforehand and was honestly expecting some kind of redemption, but no. Roald Dahl was deeply antisemitic. I’m glad I’m not a fan of his to begin with.

Before the show, I redeemed a Starbucks coupon for one free drink which had been burning a hole in my pocket for…twelve years. Umm. Glad they honored it!

Belatedly, I saw this summer reading challenge in Feeling! Magazine and signed up. I have decided that this will be my summer of reading nostalgia, and I’ve already finished Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm and started on The Borrowers. I may or may not finish 15 books by July 31st, but I’m motivated to try – which is good for me, because it means reading when I might otherwise be scrolling.

I’m still mostly current with grading which is good because I’m trying to be completely caught up before I leave for my trip.

And…that’s mostly it.

Thank you for reading! Wishing you a restful Shabbos!
