Five Senses of Chanukah

Hi all, happy Chanukah! I wrote a five senses portrait:

Sight

glowing flames on the menorah

colorful box of candles

rows of doughnuts at the bagel store

the words of Al Hanisim

stacks of Chanukah supplies at the grocery store

menorahs in windows

Sound

untaping and crunching of wrapping paper

shoveling snow

singing the brachos

my mother playing Maoz Tzur on the piano

the glug of olive oil

Touch

soft cotton wicks

wax drippings on the foil table cover

tucking a letter under the menorah

peeling apart foil on chocolate coins

Smell

latkes frying

menorah lights burning out

doughnuts!

Taste

latkes with applesauce

frosting with sprinkles on doughnuts

hot chocolate with steamed milk

pasta and quiche at a Chanukah party

What’s your portrait of Chanukah?
