Amalek

There is a negative voice inside each of us — the yetzer hara. It’s a voice of doubt that says things like:

Nothing ever works out.

This isn’t worth it.

It will never happen.

It’s hopeless.

That is the force of Amalek. We all have it inside us so that we have no choice but to strengthen ourselves in emunah — optimism and faith — in order to keep going (the voice of emunah is within us, too, the yetzer hatov).

When Bnei Yisroel left Mitzrayim, Miriam HaNeviah and the women brought musical instruments with them because they were so sure they would have a reason to thank Hashem. This is what fighting Amalek looks like — having a faithful vision that is so clear it is tangible. And reaffirming when you’re down that yes, it will get better, yes, I will get through this, and yes, I will have a reason to thank Hashem.
