Land Ho

So recently I did this thing where I sent my updated resume to everyone and the mailman. The story is that I was reading some old blog posts on Sunday and I read the one on hishtadlus and was inspired to do some. So I did and it was really kind of fun. I reconnected with a lot of people and overall it felt like I was investing in a healthy, positive way.

I made a few commitments to myself before the flurry of WhatsApps and emails: nothing too awkward or desperate, and this is NOT about results. I really emphasized that to myself and it helped in a big way because what I initially netted was three recycled ideas, one “I’ll-send-you-a-description-of-the-only-guy-I-know-who-is-so-not-for-you-but-still” idea, and one invitation to a shidduch meeting. And I sent my resume to over forty people! (Full disclosure: I also had a not-such-great encounter with someone which bummed me out for about 24 hours but then I was back in business, baby.)

A couple days later a dear coworker sent me a resume of a guy I had never heard of, which always comes with a little sparkle of hope and magic at first. I read over the profile a couple of times and did not think there was any reason for me to pursue further. However, I did have a thought that buoyed me: I never heard of him and this cannot be the only guy left on planet earth that I have never heard of. Which means that it’s eminently possible for one more new guy to surface who is just exactly what I need. I just need one! And you just need one! This guy is like a bird flying out over the water to let the voyagers know that they are approaching land!

It’s a great image and it’s an optimistic image and I kind of love it. Bird over ocean, wheeling towards land.
