A beautiful idea from Victor Frankl, cited in Happy Habits, by Tal Ben-Shahar, that I am thinking about (never having read the complete Man’s Search for Meaning, which admittedly and to my sorrow I have had a hard time sticking with):
There is a difference between finding the meaning of life, and the meaning in life.
The overarching meaning of life in the abstract may be difficult to access. It might feel too lofty or even irrelevant when we are struggling. But we can find meaning in the moment-by-moment opportunities that life presents us. We can find meaning through what we do or create, what we experience or encounter, and who we become as we respond to life’s challenges. And maybe that is meaning enough.
