Stuff To Remember About Relationships

Below is a non-authoritative, non-comprehensive brain dump that I did in my journal in response to a prompt. What would you add?

  1. Listen without interrupting or planning what you are going to say as soon as the other person stops talking. A struggle for me!
  2. Remember you’re also annoying.
  3. Be kind and patient for their mother’s sake if not for theirs. How would you hope others treat your child?
  4. Most strong reactions are not about you, but about something else in their past or present.
  5. State your needs.
  6. Verbalize compliments and what you appreciate about the other, more often than you think necessary.
  7. Don’t be surprised when you’re surprised. (People change).
  8. Ask yourself from time to time, “Am I a pleasant person to be married to?”

I want to read yours!!
