They say August is the Sunday of summer. My teaching semester is over and I have finished submitting most of my grades, which is a relief. This wasn’t much of a reading week, although I read The Genie of Sutton Place (odd but funny) and started Ballet Shoes (another childhood reread). I will be at a married cousin for Shabbos be”H – this is a bit of a milestone event, as this cousin is quite a bit younger than me and mom of four, and there was definitely a time when this would not have been something I could, or would want to, do. Over the past year or two we have become much closer and now I am looking forward to spending time with her and her family. I will be bringing picture books — Stone Soup, The Little House, and We Are in a Book.
As far as my loose list of summer fun, I have watched 1776 and have Field of Dreams on hold at the library (yes, a physical DVD, haha). Perhaps I will also get to Lawrence of Arabia or some other classics. I have tentative plans to visit the Bronx Zoo this month, and hope to walk up Broadway when it cools down a bit (I’ve chased this goal around the calendar but we’ll get there!) I had no plans made for stargazing on the High Line, but now that I’ve reminded myself about this item, I have added it to my calendar. I’ve been doing a lot of childhood rereading as mentioned previously. And I saw roses at Villa Ephrussi!
