Survivor’s Guilt

A newly married friend shared that it took about a month for her to get used to being engaged. I had said, “It must be an amazing experience to be a 30-year-old kallah” (for context – we were talking about the benefits of getting married “older” and how we are just calmer and more grounded in general). She replied that it surprised her to feel how uncomfortable she was with it at first, knowing she hadn’t done anything different than her single friends.

I imagine what getting engaged and married will feel like (a major, major change, that’s for sure!) and I have thought about this piece of it, too: survivor’s guilt, what that may feel like and how to navigate it. No need to borrow trouble, but sometimes I do wonder.
