Self-Talk

Two quick tips for talking to yourself in a helpful way:

  1. Address yourself in the second person, by name or even a nickname for yourself. This immediately creates some distance, offering perspective and lowering reactivity.
  2. Speak to yourself as you would speak to a friend. Many of us find it easier to be compassionate and positive towards a friend than we are towards ourselves. But generally, speaking more compassionately and positively helps us make better choices and move forward more productively.
