According to a study cited in Happy Habits by Tel Ben-Shahar, most people, when asked whether it is more important to focus on their strengths or weaknesses, chose weaknesses. Those who answered that it was more important to focus on their strengths were disproportionately more successful and happier.
This is in a work-related context, but I thought these findings were helpful to think about in a personal growth context, as well. This isn’t advice to ignore our weaknesses. But perhaps if we start from a place of strength — from our passions and inclinations — we can experience successes that lead to a virtuous upward spiral.
