Have a Beautiful Shabbos (And, On Anonymity)

This week ran away — I kept meaning to write but it just didn’t happen.

I’ve been itching to write in a forum that is not anonymous. So many thoughts on that. My anonymity allows me to write authentically about the many emotions of being single, in a way that’s true and deep and clear. But the anonymity is also a frustration. It doesn’t allow me to share of myself more widely, and I’m simply wanting that expansiveness. And having separate channels for this and something else also feels inauthentic to me somehow, like…living a lie? (Overdramatic?)

I wish I knew what the right next step for me is. I simply can’t be more public about my blog; the internet is too cruel. I’m really interested in hearing from you about how would you feel if I archived this blog in order to write more openly? Or do you have another suggestion for me about how to gain more freedom to share, while still producing content that you find validating? It doesn’t feel like this blog is just mine, and I can’t make the decision alone. And also I’m so interested in hearing about what you would like to read from me, whether it’s something I’ve been writing about all along, or something new. And what you find that you get from this blog that maybe you haven’t gotten elsewhere, on or off the internet?

Very eagerly awaiting your feedback!

What you’ve created here is amazing – it’s a comforting spot that doesn’t exist anywhere else.
I wish I could selflessly encourage you to do what is best for you.
But all I can think is “help, don’t leave me behind!” I love your blog and don’t want to lose it. Whatever you decide, please tell us how to find you. (Like, can you send an email to your subscribers so we can follow along with your journey?)

You are the sweetest and your comment means so much to me. I have been thinking about this and I even set up a Substack account (and deleted it a week later) — I just like the way the blog is too much to change it. (Side note but also something that was a consideration for me: the back end has some quirks and I am sure there are important website thingies I’m not doing, so a simpler platform would be nice, but for the foreseeable future, this blog stays as is). As far as my anonymity in this space, that continues as well — I simply gain too much from the freedom to compromise it.
