Headlights

I came across the following quote from E. L. Doctorow twice recently, once in the book Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott and once in a blog post by Gretchen Rubin:

 

Writing is like driving at night in the fog. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.

 

Isn’t making it through life like this, too? You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can — must — make the whole trip that way.
