My Apartment Story, Part II

So from the doorway, I knew I’d take the apartment. And that is what I did. I signed the lease and paid my first month’s rent and security deposit a few days later. And it was all mine on February 1.

It was a bit challenging juggling a move with working full time, so that slowed me down, but bit by bit it happened. The apartment needed a paint job and it took way too many back-and-forths to figure out colors (I totally understand why people hire professionals for this). We ultimately painted the living room white and the bedroom pink, and I’m thinking about painting the kitchen light blue.

I also went back and forth about what to do about a couch. I had a vision (love a classic, tailored sofa from Room & Board) but did not want to spend that kind of money. In the end I went with the ivory couch from my grandparents’ apartment; though it’s a bit dated and not what I’d choose if I was buying new, it’s still in great condition and you can’t beat free! I also ordered bookcases from IKEA (three of the narrow Billy bookcases), I hope these work well for the room!

For a dining room set, I knew I needed a small round table and four chairs, but I wanted something dainty and old-fashioned, so IKEA and Wayfair were out. I found a set on Craigslist. I had actually overlooked it for weeks as I kept searching, because the table was smaller than I wanted, but then I realized that the set came with a leaf. So, I messaged the seller, thinking it must have been long-sold, and it was waiting for me.

The apartment still needs lots of outfitting — side table(s), lamps, art art art — but one thing at a time. (I have to keep remembering that). One thing at a time.
