Chodesh tov! This past Sunday was my penultimate teaching class of the semester (I mark my time by classes taught, apparently) and this upcoming Sunday I am giving my final exam. After that, I will have two free Sundays before starting to teach again. The possibilities are endless!
On Monday I went to a Yom Hashoah event at the Austrian Consulate. It was organized by B’nai B’rith and I went because I was so curious to see behind the scenes at the Consulate, having only ever been in the waiting room (three times). The Consulate is located in a former private home (mansion) on the Upper East Side and the event took place in the upstairs library. It was short and quite nicely done.
This week I listened to Betsy-Tacy, by Maud Hart Lovelace, on audio. I had so many feelings listening to this book. It’s nostalgic and wholesome and brought me years back and also made me feel hopeful about the future. It is the most wonderful book. I wish the other books in the series were recorded, too – the narrator (an award-winning actress) is excellent. I still plan to read the next three per my spring fun list. It occurs to me that the following four books in the series (Betsy’s high school years) would make for good fall reading!
I am in the midst of crunch time. My students’ papers need grading and my dissertation proposal needs writing and editing. I will probably fall behind in one or both of these areas, but I know that little by little it will all get done. It always does!
Have a restful Shabbos!
P.S. Time to check on the Keukenhof flower report.
