This Would Be a Nice Place for a Wedding

I love thinking about formats and locations for small, unconventional weddings. I have actually been doing this for forever but COVID really gave me an excuse to dream. Apparently “micro weddings” are now a trend in the secular wedding world and I am here for it, if just for the cuteness.

When I was little, my grandparents used to daven in an old and beautiful Young Israel. The shul has long-since been sold and modernized, but I used to imagine getting married in the main sanctuary with stained glass windows.

A few summers ago I stayed in a small chalet in the Laurentians, and I told my friend that I was going to come back and get married by the lake. Later I even found a couple who did that (mazel tov, Aubrey and Andy). Basically my plan is to rent a chuppah for the lakefront and have a buffet dinner in one of the largest chalets. Then my guests can spend the night there for fun (we’ll rent however many chalets we need, maybe have a bonfire?).

I also like the idea of a chic restaurant wedding. We’d find one with a rooftop or patio for the chuppah and a large party room and really I think it could be lovely.

Central Park offers picnic wedding packages and yes, yes this can’t work for so many reasons but isn’t it just adorable?

And then of course I’ve imagined getting married at home.

Do you ever think it would be nice to have a small or unconventional wedding?
