Quarterly Check-In #3

And here we are at the end of the third quarter. An update on what has happened, or is happening, or not happening:

  1. Build the habit of putting down my phone when I am with people. I think I’ve maintained my improvement in this area. Hard to quantify, but overall this year I’ve been more conscious of this.
  2. Put friends and family birthdays into my calendar so I remember birthdays. I would count this as a win. I mostly focused on family, but maybe next year I can add in friends.
  3. Do Storyworth with my grandmother. I need to pull together what we did together and create the book.
  4. Call friends (at least) twice a month. I think it’s been happening. I am not tracking it, though.
  5. Give attention to relationship weak areas: saying no, apologizing, forgiving. Not a well-constructed goal, but this Yom Kippur I spent time working on letting some things go that I have carried for a long time.
  6. Donate blood. Have not done.
  7. Don’t sign up for any extra courses. I haven’t signed up for anything outside of work.
  8. Do 10 minutes of strength training on my WFH days. I completely and totally am not doing this. I feel bad. I just hate exercise.
  9. Get sunglasses. Done.
  10. Average 5,800 daily step count for the year. My average is currently 6,000.
  11. Learn more about my birth chart. Have not done and essentially dropped.
  12. Read the halacha section of Reclaiming Dignity. Done.
  13. Learn Sefer Yehoshua & Shoftim. Still haven’t started. But maybe I will.
  14. Review CPR book on a biweekly basis. I am not thrilled to share that I still haven’t done this at all.
  15. Read through A Poem for Every Night of the Year. I stopped this around April.
  16. Learn some Latin. Have not done.
  17. Watch season 6 of ACGAS, AND re-watch previous seasons. I haven’t watched since my mother and I finished season 3 but I’m determined to finish it this year!
  18. Thoroughly visit the Bronx Zoo. Yes!
  19. Go to at least one Yankees game. Yes!
  20. Walk up Broadway (Manhattan). Not yet. Really hoping October is the month.
  21. Visit the south of France for my birthday. YES!
  22. Set up my journaling business website. I have a website, but I’m not working on growing a business now.
  23. Reach (surpass?) 100+ email subscribers. Dropped this (see above).
  24. Publish one article. I replaced this with a conference presentation, which is done.
  25. Make a praise file. Did not do.
  26. Defend dissertation proposal. Well, not yet. But this will be”H be done by 12/31! That’s the goal.

Admittedly…I’m already itching to move on to 27 for 2027. There are probably better ways to construct a goals list and if you have suggestions, I am open to them. LV sets quarterly goals for relationships, work, and self — maybe? This list format is fun but then I end up with items that I lose interest in, or can’t get myself to do…it can be improved upon. Please feel free to share your ideas.

Have a great day!
