Apartment Living: Dating

You may be wondering what apartment living looks like when it comes to shidduchim. The truth is it hasn’t been much different from dating from my parents’ house (but the little difference it’s made has been positive)! I generally date from my apartment. I let the shadchan know to let the guy know that I will be waiting outside and he (or the shadchan) can call me if he is delayed. I was actually doing something similar before I moved out of my parents’ house; I used to get such anxiety from listening to my parents talk to the guy in the living room while I waited in the kitchen so for awhile I had been meeting dates at the door. So, dating from my apartment with no one watching from the window is the next-level chilled and I appreciate that. Theoretically I would introduce a guy to my parents when it felt like the right time or whenever he wanted to meet them, but that hasn’t happened since I moved (yet!).

My roommates date from the apartment, from work, from a relative’s house, meet guys at the venue, etc. It definitely can be more naturalistic and relaxed when you are living apart from your parents. (We have also all done Zoom dating from our apartment).

No one has really asked me about why I moved or seemed to have a problem with it (shadchanim and guys — granted, I do not know what everyone who has looked into me thinks of it but nothing negative has gotten back to me).

In terms of talking about dating with my roommates, apparently I broke the ice in the apartment because I was fairly open about it (when I was looking into someone, when I was going out, and how it was going generally). In the past, my roommates had kept their dating to themselves but apparently I have no filter (lol). Every apartment will handle it their way!

That’s basically it — feel free to ask if you have any questions!
