How To Write a Bucket List (Plus, a Group List)

Since I posted about my bucket list last year, I’ve been continuously revisiting and adding to it. The other week, I was talking to a family member about writing a list of her own and asked her to start listing goals/dreams out loud. It took a bit to warm up, but then she started sharing dreams, and truly it was exciting to hear about them even if they are not my own! On that note, I’d love to learn what’s on YOUR bucket list! If you’d like, feel free to submit any number of items here and if I hear from you, I’ll post a shared bucket list (including more stuff on mine).

Some tips for writing your list:

  • Go for volume. Sit down for 30 minutes and just write and write. You can edit and categorize after.
  • No censoring! Nothing is too big, too small, too unusual or otherwise “too” anything for your list.
  • Your list should scare you!
  • Think small and think big.
  • Think about categories: where you would like to go, who you would like to meet, what you would like to experience, who you would like to become, what you would like to create…Categories I currently have are Experiences, Travel, Professional, Creative, and Food (a list of foods I want to try making, like crepe cake). If it helps you to think outside the structure of categories, that’s also fine.
  • Think about the past (nostalgia, revisiting), present, and future.
  • Think about one-time experiences and ongoing realities.
  • Most importantly, think outside of and above your current constraints.
  • P.S. Read this fun book for more inspiration!

So what’s on your bucket list? Share your lists here!
