It goes without saying that life will never be the same. We are living through a moment in history unlike anything we’ve experienced in our lifetimes. And earth-shaking changes like this make most everything else seem trivial by comparison. There will be time to write and talk about other things soon enough (and I intend to, on this blog), but …
How quickly the world turns upside down! Do you even remember life before COVID-19? When I was blogging about stuff like shidduch pictures (lol)? It was another reality…but we will get back there, please G-d! And as Rabbi Manis Friedman said in a video clip I saw, we will have a healthier planet and a nobler human race when we do. …
Sorry if y’all want a break from…the situation, but bear with me another moment. I find such charm in anything tiny and, between you and me, my secret wish was always to have an intimate little wedding (too much Anne of Green Gables, perhaps?). So, these days my imagination is in overdrive. As always, my heart truly goes out to …
At this point, just about everyone’s lives have been turned upside down. With schools shut down, businesses shuttered, and flights cancelled, not to mention the social distancing measures, I’m getting so jittery. Weddings have had to be dramatically scaled down…and that got me thinking about what I would do if my wedding was taking place under these circumstances. It’s actually kind …
Hey, last week I wanted to write something but I couldn’t figure out what my thoughts on the coronavirus outbreak were exactly. Now that my job and fieldwork have been suspended, I’m realizing that this is all very real. It’s time to settle into a new normal. When something large and unexpected shakes up our lives, it’s an invitation …
It’s Adar and I’m writing a paper on grief. It’s not as if I want to be writing a paper on grief (or on anything!) but there you go. And that’s kind of how it is a lot of the time.
Last Purim, I was home for most of the day with two of my sisters. My parents were away and we went to join them later in the day for the seudah. But for the better part of the day, it was just us. I’ve written before about the unique joy of a grown-up Purim. Last Purim was an extra-special …
We’re back with a list of what I read recently. I am definitely having a nonfiction streak (which is going strong into March). I took notes on all of them and learned a lot this month. As usual, all these books were borrowed from my local library. Chasing the Sun: The New Science of Sunlight and How It Shapes …
This week I started to play mahjong. I most definitely have an overly romantic notion of mahjong but I definitely wanted to learn it. I started my lessons this week (tutor: 80-year-old woman) and it felt a bit like being lost in Wonderland, where everyone else understands some kind of inscrutable logic you can only weakly follow… So what …
My friends are so wise, so I wanted to share another bit of advice one of them gave me. I was telling her about something I started doing every week that costs a fair bit and is making a tangible difference in my life. She said: “If something is working, keep doing it.” As in: if debriefing with …
