Spring is so very fleeting. This week I attempted to catch the end of the Park Avenue tulips, but they were gone! I did glimpse them earlier this season when I walked to the Austrian Consulate General for an event a few weeks ago, so I didn’t completely miss out on this item on my list, but this week illustrated to me how very fleeting the spring bloom can be. Better strategizing for next spring, if relevant.
I went to see the Macy’s Flower Show on the recommendation of a client but found it underwhelming? I did like the window displays, though. They seemed to depict scenes of willowy women who’d crash landed hot air balloons into enchanted monochrome gardens. The windows were fun to look at, at any rate. You can sort of see them here and maybe someone else has shared better shots.
I am currently reading The Artist’s Way for Parents by Julia Cameron, and Time Out for Happiness by Frank Gilbreth (fortunately, my library carries it), which is a biography of his parents that I am reading as a follow up to Cheaper by the Dozen.
In slightly less delightful reading news, I’m reviewing the textbook for the new college course I am teaching this summer semester (which started…this week). I don’t mind it very much, it’s a light one and asynchronous, which I had wanted for awhile. I’m also teaching a live course I’ve previously taught.
I had my first Rita’s custard (butter pecan) on Lag B’omer, and decided I would try four more flavors over each summertime Rosh Chodesh (Sivan, Tamuz, Av, Elul). I think that’s a reasonable strategy? These treats are unfortunately a bit costly ($6 for a small?) and as I discovered this week, not much different than a regular soft ice cream (which I can get for about $3). I thought they would be more exciting. But, I am still interested in trying the various flavors. And our Rita’s is in a cute location with outdoor benches so it’s nice to go there. This doesn’t mean I can’t also get ice cream at the pizza store, naturally.
Class #2 of both my sixth grade group and Journal to the Self group went nicely! This is really a bright spot in my life, despite the extra work it gives me (for not much remuneration). Maybe one day it will grow into something more substantial. I do not know but I will let it unfold.
And do believe that’s a wrap for the week.
Wishing you a restful Shabbos!
