What Are You Reading These Days?

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been engrossed in the audio version of The Body Keeps the Score, a book about trauma by Bessel van der Kolk. It’s a 16-hour listen and the subject matter is pretty intense (but fascinating!), so I’ve only listened for about an hour or two a day. I’m almost done, so feel free to leave recommendations for my next audio book! I like to always have one downloaded on my phone for when I’m doing a mindless task, like packing a suitcase.

I just finished reading (the hard copy of) The Yes Brain, by Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson. This is another parenting book, but I find that virtually all of the information can be applied to parenting yourself. The book teaches how to nurture a developing brain to become open, curious, resilient and empathetic. A quick read and very much in the vein of Dan Siegel’s other parenting books. Next on my holds at the library are Mindset, by Carol Dweck, and Flow, by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (no, I can’t pronounce it).

I’m realizing that I don’t often do the curl-up-with-a-novel thing, although I kind of wish that was me because it seems so cozy. Ah, well. So many books, so little time. But, if you are interested in fiction, I did enjoy The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper, by Phaedra Patrick, and A Man Called Ove, by Fredrik Backman. (And do you happen to have a recommendation for a novel that’s really, really, really worth it?)

I’m happy to share more recommendations, by the way, if you’re looking for something specific. And I’d love to hear yours.

Hope y’all have a great week! Do you have time to read? What do you enjoy?
